Shear Correction Factors

When the FSDT is used, constant transverse shear strains γyz\gamma_{yz} and γxz\gamma_{xz} are assumed, as detailed in Section 6.6, creating an inconsistent transverse shear energy in the system, and therefore requiring a so called and widely used shear correction factor (SCF). The wide application comes from FSDT-based plate elements being the most popular in commercial finite element software.
